The Hermit weapons are created through the new Assemble & Disassemble system. I'll explain briefly how it works. When you kill a mob, you'll find weapons with [New] titles to them, those weapons can be used to assemble into better weapons - Hermit and Heavenly, or used to dissemble into particles (resources used to assemble weapons)

In Hefei, the General Store will sell a dissemble tool for 75,000. When you put a weapon into the dissemble tool, depending on the level, value and refinement stage of that weapon - the resources gained will either be redstone (unrefined) or redstone excellence (refined). The higher the refinement rate, the more redstone (excellence) you will earn, normal redstone will be given to you by any [new] or blood dragon weapons. You cannot dissemble plain weapons (white or blue coloured).

When you have dissembled enough weapons to make the first Hermit weapon at EC6 - speak to the Assemble weapon npc and use a [New] weapon with the redstone and redstone excellence to attempt to make the weapon into a Hermit weapon. If you're successful, you will have the weapon as a Hermit version. You will be able to refine the weapon, trade it 30 times and combine/decrease it. If you want to go ahead and upgrade that into a Heavenly weapon, you will need more redstone/redstone (excellence).

Steps:

1) Find [New] weapons or Blood Dragon [New] weapons by killing mobs.
2)Use the new or bd weapons with a dissemble tool purchased from the General Store in Hefei to gain redstone (unrefined) and redstone excellence (refined).
3)The first EC6 weapon requires 4 redstone excellence and 120 redstone. You will get the redstone (excellence) by dissembling refined weapons. Most people refine blood dragon [new] weapons to +3 and dissemble them to earn 1 redstone (excellence)
4)When you have 120 redstone and 4 redstone (excellence) go to the assembly weapon npc and craft the weapon into a Hermit weapon.
5)The weapon can fail to assemble but you will not lose the weapon, only the resources. You can increase the chances by using a Master's Guide which doubles the chances - you can buy it in the im for 1500sp.
6)When the weapon does upgrade to Hermit, you can attempt to ugprade that to a Heavenly weapon. You need 250 redstone and 24 redstone (excellence).

that "Hermit" weapon will have no slots

I think that is a bug because in the assemble window, the Hermit weapon clearly shows it has slots on it but when you get the weapon, the weapon isn't slotted. Either the name shouldn't be "Hermit" or the it's a visual bug because the assembly system also doesn't affect the slots, options or hardness.

Other versions dont have slots either, they can be slotted however. They need to be "hermit" because they contain Stats and stats are tradeable, and they have 3 hardness to begin with. Pretty much all hermit properties except for the slots.

Most people don't look at the hardness to associate them with Hermit, they look at the name and expect them to have three slots. It's an annoying misconception and after failing a couple of times to get the weapon without the slots, you /fp haha.
