In July, Psyonix's rocket-propelled football game turns five. To celebrate this great occasion, the developer plans to release a major update for the Rocket League in the coming weeks. Psyonix hasn't yet described exactly what the update will mean, but has been annoyed that fans can look forward to a host of new features.

The upcoming Rocket League update will be released sometime "later this summer," according to a post on the game's official website. However, this mysterious content isn't the only way the studio wants to celebrate the upcoming Rocket League milestone. At the end of June, Psyonix will host a two-week event with limited-time modes, as well as Psyonix and Rocket League articles in the Event Store. A specific date for the introduction of this two-week event is not yet known at the time of writing.

Preparations for the "big update" are slated to begin this morning in the form of a minor update. This special patch for the Rocket League will be released on all platforms at 10:00 a.m. PST, the blog post says. In addition, fans of the sports title can look forward to a “new item series” that Psyonix promises to announce further details about the next week.

Rocket League is available on the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, PC and Xbox One platforms. It was originally launched in July 2015 and served as a sequel to Psyonix's Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle Cars, which landed on PlayStation 3 in 2008.
