    Default Northern Turtle Raid 101

Do you wish to take on one of the toughest challenges DoMO currently has to offer? You've come to the right thread. Be warned, as this is going to be a long ride.

Northern Turtle's Lair is a full-on raid, consisting of multiple floors and a mini-boss on each floor. Each floor has different things to watch out for, so stay sharp! Since very very few guilds have attempted this raid and only one of them has made it to the record boards by the time of this thread, it seems like no one else has the know-how or preparation to do it! So here's some things to keep in mind:

    • Everything is Water element - This means you should bring every single earth measure possible, especially if it's your first time. Weapons with Earth attack (base or from onyxes), Secrets of the Earth Spirit, Ring of Earth Defense, Earth DEF Packs, whatever you can bring.
    • Bulky mid-bosses - There are ways to get around them, more explained later in the thread.
    • High leveled monsters - This raid isn't a joke. Everyone is recommended to be at least level 65 and/or fully geared up. This means everything should at least be double golded and that you have appropriate onyxes. Mods will definitely help too, particularly for smaller raid groups.
    • Wait Shaman can be useful? - Secret Skill Bug used on Shaman. This is not as important, but being able to raise their Water Defense so they take more damage from Earth is always welcome if you plan to be a M.DPS for this raid.
    • Get a tank or two - Unless you have a god-like DPS with fully modded Earth Defense or plan to kill some mobs throughout this raid, you WILL need a tank that will have the proper support. This means he/she will need Earth Spirits, a dedicated Doctor, and possibly other things to stay alive as he/she takes away mobs away from your group.
    • Your HLA Tool player has a lot of work to do - If you are not using HLA pills here, you must be extremely hardcore.
    • Keep your top DPS alive and well - Since they will be dealing the most damage, they will be the ones holding the boss aggro. Make sure they receive proper support.

That said, don't be pressured to do the raid as fast as possible the first time. Once you have begun to experience it, you'll want to prepare for it more. This guide exists to give you an idea of what you're up against.

    Floor 1

There's not much too notable on this floor, except that there are two mini-bosses you should be killing: Bullcarp King and Sapphire Goldfish King. Killing them will allow you to advance to the next floor.

If you have difficulty trying to get to them, kill some of the adds.

    Floor 2

Here we start seeing a Tower-Patrolling Spirit, a monster that every Blademaster will want to be one day: A hard-hitting, full on fury, duel-wielding killing machine. This particular one should be killed as it counts as a mini-boss. If you thought this one guy was tough to deal with, don't worry! There's only more to come in Floor 4~

Now, to the main attraction of this floor: The Xuanwu Emissary Shadow. This mini-boss will take extremely reduced amounts of damage. This is because of his Sapphire Goldfish King servants, which act like All-Seeing Eyes from Madam Malachite where they give him a barrier. They must be killed inside the room so that he becomes a lot more vulnerable. If there is too much pressure on the tank trying to kite the fishes and possibly other mobs in the room, shift your focus to killing them. Once Xuanwu Emissary Shadow is defeated, you can advance to the next floor.

    Floor 3

    Welcome to puzzles and agony!

This floor is essentially the Devil Trap Rock instance in Northern Turtle Tower, but cranked up to hard mode. There are two ways you can go about defeating the Northern Turtle Legion Commander here:

    • Stack poisons on him until he dies
    • Purify him then kill him
    • Hit him until he dies

The first option is by far the most tedious but doable if none of your raid members have Purify. The eggs around his room explode, poisoning and slowly absolutely anything near it, including the boss himself. Because of this, it is advised that ranged attackers kill the eggs and everyone else stays away from it. In order for this to work, the Northern Turtle Legion Commander must be lured to the egg being destroyed. Each time an egg is destroyed, a turtle will spawn from it, making things more annoying. You can always use Red Claw Bugs on the eggs to make it easier to poison the Northern Turtle Legion Commander, but make sure you are away from the egg when it is killed. If your raid members have poison of their own, they are advised to use it (hello there, Witch Doctors). This can take a good 20 minutes if done properly.

The second option is DEFINITELY easier, as you don't have to worry about the eggs. The reason he is so bulky is because of a buff, which can be purified.

The third option is if you don't want to worry about the eggs and no one has Purify. This will probably take longer than the first option however, unless all of your DPS have ridiculous mods.

Now you know what the Northern Turtle Tower instance is like, but it's so much easier there than here. Relatively speaking, that is~

When Northern Turtle Legion Commander is defeated, rebuff as necessary and enter the fourth floor with caution.

    Floor 4

Surprise ambush! A gang of Tower Patrolling Spirits are almost immediately ready to attack you. Make sure your tank has them mobbed up and that he/she is being constantly healed.

Other than that, all you have is the Turtle Servant mini boss and it is nothing to write home about. Defeat him and move on to the final floor!

    Floor 5

Re-prepare yourselves for the final fight, Northern Turtle! Depending on how scarred you are from the Xuanwu Emissary Shadow and Northern Turtle Legion Commander, you may find this to be the hardest or the most disappointing fight.

He has a large aoe (indicated by warning circles) that you are heavily advised to run away from. This AoE will do heavy amounts of damage and leave you with a debuff that makes you take 20% extra magic damage. This means if Northern Turtle follows up with an AoE soon afterwards, you're as good as dead.

That's pretty much his main threat however. If you stay cautious of his AoE and keep your party constancy alive, then Northern Turtle can go down smoothly. He may spawn an add or two, but they're pretty unnoticeable and don't add much else to the difficulty unlike Garnet Godwin.

Once you have defeated Northern Turtle, bask in glory as you have surpassed one of the hardest raids in the game!

    Closing

I hope this has given you an idea of what you'll be up against when and if you plan to do Northern Turtle. This raid can be a doozy, but always keep in mind that your main focus should be in Earth and that your best people should stay alive. Don't be afraid to take it slowly if you must. If you have any questions feel free to ask. Good luck! You're going to need it.

Anyone who needs a good tank, hit me up. I can't provide forms but I'm pretty sure I can handle any damage they dish out.

    Nice guide!

One question about the 2nd floor though - when I attempted it, the sapphire goldfish kings seemed to respawn indefinitely. Would this be because they weren't being killed inside the emissary's room? Or is there some other trick?

I believe they have to be killed inside the room.
